Abstract

A two-year study was conducted on ten Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) lines during 2010 at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, teaching and research farm, Sokoto, Sokoto State and during 2011 at Bubuche in Augie Local Government Area, Kebbi State in North-Western Nigeria all under rain-fed conditions across the two environments. The objective of the study was to determine correlation among traits of sorghum evaluated. The treatments consisted of ten Sorghum genotypes of some selected States in North-Western Nigeria. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The procedure outlined in the IBGR/ICRISAT sorghum descriptor was used to measure each trait. Result of the study revealed that highly significant (P ≥ 0.01) negative correlation was observed between leaf number and leaf length (-.366) significant (P ≥ 0.05) negative correlation with plant height (- .329) indicating that selection for leaf number results in decline in the two traits.
