Abstract
A field study was conducted at Agronomy farm, Department of Agronomy, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola (Maharashtra) during kharif season of 2012- 13 to find out the energy efficient cropping system having higher system productivity and more resource use efficient. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with four replication consisting of two tillage practices (conventional tillage and minimum tillage) and four cropping systems[Sole pigeonpea, Pigeonpea + soybean (1:2), Pigeonpea + Sunnhemp (1:2) and Pigeonpea+ soybean (1:5)]. Highest plant height and root length was found in sole pigeonpea compared with intercropping system. Higher pigeonpea grain yield(18.5q/ ha)was recorded under sole pigeonpea, being on par with pigeonpea +sunhemp (1:2) whereas, under intercropping system higher yield was recorded in pigeonpea + soybean (1:5).Flower to pod conversion percentage (42.3%), PEY (26.2q/ha), system productivity (14.6kg/ha), rainfall use efficiency (4.43kg/ha/ mm), output energy (1, 37,108 MJ/ha) and energy use efficiency (0.41) were found maximum under pigeonpea + soybean (1:2) system. Output energy (1, 33,976 MJ/ha), output energy ratio (23.88), energy use efficiency (0.36) and energy balance (1, 28,313 MJ/ha) were found maximum in minimum tillage as compared to conventional tillage.
