Abstract

A storage experiment was conducted to understand the influence of modified atmospheric storage conditions on storability of pigeonpea seeds. The experiment was conducted for ten months during July-2012 to April 2013. The seeds were exposed to various gaseous combinations and stored in 700 gauge polyethylene bags. The results revealed that, the seeds exposed to gaseous combination of 40% N2+00% O2+60% CO2 showed better seed quality parameters viz., germination (78.30%), seedling length (27.13 cm), seedling vigor index (2124) and field emergence (67.30%) at the end of ten months of storage period followed by gaseous combination of 60% N2+00% O2+40% CO2 and vacuum storage compared to other treatments.
