Abstract

Pigeonpea is one of the protein rich legumes of the semiarid tropics grown predominantly under rainfed conditions. It is grown throughout the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Pigeonpea is one of the important pulse crops of India and 91 per cent of the world’s pigeonpea is produced in India. The productivity of pigeonpea in India is far below (799 kg ha-1) with the average productivity (848 kg ha-1) of world.
