Abstract

Information on heterosis, inbreeding depression and combining ability is derived from data on grain yield and 5 component traits in 6 varieties (5 Indian and 1 exotic) and their F1 to F4 hybrids. Grain yield/plant recorded the highest heterosis (87.5% over the better parental value in the F1), and also showed significant GCA and SCA in all generations. The hybrids SPV451 × SPV474, SPV474 × IS508, CSV10 × SPV451 and CSV10 × SPV474 were identified as promising
