Abstract

Inheritance of resistance to Alternaria tenuissima was studied in the F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations of crosses between 7 resistant (R) lines and one susceptible (S) cultivar (Bahar). Disease reaction was examined 3 weeks after spraying plants with inoculum at 70 days after sowing (first week of November). Dominance of susceptibility in the F1 generation and segregation into 3S : 1R in the F2 indicated that resistance is governed by a single recessive gene. The monogenic nature of resistance was confirmed by backcross analysis
