Abstract

Field studies were conducted in Andhra Pradesh, India, during the 2008 rainy and 2008-09 post-rainy seasons, to determine the genetic diversity of a mini core collection of groundnut based on nutritional, oil quality and yield component traits. A total of 184 germplasm lines, 3 breeding lines (R 9227, MN 1-28 and MN 1-35) and 4 cultivars (GPBD 4, TAG 24, JL 24 and M 28-2) were evaluated. Data were recorded on days to 50% flowering, number of pods, 100 seed weight, shelling percentage, kernel yield, pod yield and protein, oil, oleic acid and linoleic acid contents. Results showed that the oleic acid content ranked first and contributed 30.75% to divergence of genotypes. This was followed by protein content, which contributed 28.78% to divergence. A total of 15 clusters were also formed based on D2 statistics, of which 12 clusters were solitary with single genotypes
