Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2010-11 at the Main Agricultural Research Station, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to assess the effect of temperature regimes on morpho-phenological parameters, yield and yield components in rabi sorghum genotypes. The experiment consisted of four genotypes under four temperature regimes (dates of sowing - sowing at fortnightly intervals starting from second fortnight (FN) of September to first FN of November). The genotype RSLG-262 and DSV-4, recorded maximum plant height at 50 per cent flowering and maturity followed by M 35-1 and the minimum plant height was recorded by E 36-1. The plant height was significantly higher under September II FN (18th September 2010) temperature regime at both 50 per cent flowering and maturity. Among the temperature regime, significantly more number of days to 50 per cent flowering and for days to maturity was recorded under September II FN (18th September 2010) and October I FN (9th October 2010) temperature regimes. Significantly more number of days to grain filling was recorded under October II FN (23rd October 2010) temperature regime. The genotypes DSV-4 and RSLG-262 recorded maximum yield further, these genotypes recorded higher yield under 3rd date of sowing (i.e., October II FN (23rd October 2010)). The genotype DSV-4 and E 36-1 recorded higher thousand grain weight because of higher growing degree days (GDD) for days to 50 per cent flowering and days to maturity
