Abstract
In rice-rice sequence, continuous cropping with optimum fertilizer use appears to have prevented any appreciable decline in grain yield of rice crop, as per the data reported from different centers of cropping system research in the project, Seasonal application of 120 kg N and 40/80 kg P2 O3/ ha was found necessary to support stable grain production levels, characteristic to each agro-climatic situations, Due to the change in varietal performance and due to unforeseen climatic situation, seasonal fluctuations in grain yield levels were not uncommon. However, this being a general trend common to both fertilize an unfertilized plots, it may be inferred that continuous use of fertilizer per se had no harmful influence towards lowering the productivity of rice soils and that it has considerably helped in sustaining and stabilizing the yield levels of rice in a rice=rice system...
