Abstract
Field experiments were conducted in Turkey during 2003 and 2003 to investigate the effects of weed-free period on the seed yield and yield components of double cropped soyabean cv. A 3935. Weeds were allowed to interfere with production starting from emergence up to a certain week, after which weeds were removed and plots were maintained as weed-free for the rest of the season. Weed removal started a week after soyabean germination and continued for 11 weeks at weekly intervals. Seed yield varied between 1289.3 and 4778.3 kg/ha in 2002 and between 1007.3 and 3980.0 kg/ha in 2003. Seed yield exponentially increased with increasing length of the weed-free period. Yield increase in weed-free plots was due to increase in pod and seed
