Abstract

This paper reviews various breeding procedures in maize aimed at improving the homozygotic superiority and stability of elite inbred lines and hybrids by exploiting favourable additive gene action without losing combining ability. Heterosis and per se performance in terms of yield of these inbred lines and hybrids are discussed
