Abstract
In tropical Asia, Various kinds of traditional cropping systems are practiced under the self-sufficient conditions in peasant economy. Among them, complex intercropping or mixed cropping system in one of the typical systems which show the characteristics of traditional cropping systems in the area. For example, it is not uncommon in India that a patch where cereal crop is grown as the major crop several other crops such as pulses and vegetables are grown together. Such elaborate systems as is seen in intercropping or mixed cropping system is worthy to be investigated in order to understand the real advantage in traditional farming in the area. Furthermore, it is well know that in addition to field crops, various kinds of wild plants are distributed and utilized in the area. Normally, peasants make good use of these plants as their food materials
