Abstract
This report setting forth an updated strategy and a long-term programme of the International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR), has been prepared primarily for members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and of its Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). It has been issued for a number of reasons. First, the board submitted a Strategy and planning Report to the TAC in 1981 and that Report, also made available to donors, embodied a five-year plan of action for the first half of the 1980s. The Board viewed this as a rolling five-year plan and a number of modifications have been made yearly in response to practical constraints. Second, the first Quinquennial Review of the Board which reported to the donors in October 1980 suggested a number of shifts in emphasis which th IBPGR has incorporated into its programme. After experience of this work, an assessment appeared. After Third, the board needs to start planning for its work up to 1990 so that it can report to its donors. It is also hoped that this report will be useful to other readers. The Board's activities have become increasingly visible to the public through references in the press, the FAO Conference the World Conservation Strategy and this publication of numerous other organizations
