Abstract

The author discusses the poverty situation in developing countries and their impact on environmental degradation as the poor deplete natural resources such as forests, soils, and water supplies faster than fear they will soon loose access to them, drawing numerous examples. The author suggests some of the most innovative strategies for dismantling the poverty traps' local parts-lack of secure control over productive resources (e.g. information, financial support), physical weakness and illness, population growth and powerlessness
