Abstract

The fist edition of Irrigation Practice and Water Management was prepared by the late Professor L.D.Doneen of the University of California, USA, and Published in 1971 by the Land and Water Development Division, FAO, Rome. The publication was intended to serve as an on-farm irrigation and water management guide book for farmers as well as irrigation extension personnel. To meet this objective it was written in a simple form with many illustrations, tables and field examples. This publication is now revised in incorporate recent technical information on soil-plant-water relationship and irrigation practice. However, in doing so, the general approach and formal developed by the late Professsor Doneen is maintained as it still to be recognized as his contribtion to the advancement of irrigation science. FAO gratefully acknowledges the contribution of Mr D.W. Westcot on revising the publication and bringing up to the date its technical content. It is hoped that the this publication will serve to improve irrigation practices and thereby increase food production in the developing countries
