Abstract

The International conference, "Graminaceous Downy Midew Diseases," was convened to (1) Identify areas in which either the lack of knowledge or the lack of techniques limits the development of effective controls, and (2) develop new or improved approaches to solving critical problems limiting progress in understanding downy mildew (DM) diseases. A different approach, namely, the Nominal Group Techniques (NGT), was used to organize the conferences. This procedure, recently developed to enhance productivity of conference. This procedure, technique as applied was as fellows the conference was designed to emphasize certain key research areas these were epidemiology, physiology, and biochemistry of the DM were assigned to one of three groups each group consisted of seven or eight persons. Included in each group were two resource scientists who had general competence in the subject area, although they did not have specific research experience with DMs
