Abstract
Situation Tanganyika Territory is situated on the eastern coast of Africa extending from 1° S. to 11° 45’ S. and 29° 21’ E. to 40° 25’ E.: it occupies an area of 362,688 square miles, being approximately 740 miles long and 760 miles broad. The coastline is some 550 miles long and there are 19,982 square miles of inland water. Except for a narrow belt along the coast, the whole territory lies over 1,000ft. and the greater area is a plateau of 3,000 to 4,000ft. in altitude. Tanganyika is bounded by Kenya, Uganda, Northern Rhodesia, Nyasaland, Portuguese East Africa, and the Belgian Congo (including Ruanda Urundi).
