Abstract
In this report the results of investigations on the development and validation of algorithms to map rainfall with METEOSATdata in Zambia are presented. The results indicated that it is not possible to apply simple linear relationships to relate the duration of cold cloud top, as obtained with METEOSAT, to dekadic rainfall. The coefficients of these relationships are time-dependent, so similar validation and calibration studies are to be continued for the approach to achieve full operational status
