Abstract

This document is an initial attempt to outline what could be a vision of sustainable development for agriculture and natural resources in the Americas. The first chapter gives a brief introduction. The second outlines the views of the ICSA on the meaning of sustainable development in agriculture and natural resources. The third chapter takes a look at today's agricultural sector in the region, and chapter four examines the political, institutional, and technological causes of non-sustainability in modern dayagriculture. Finally, chapter five proposes a number of strategies and alternatives designed to sow the seeds for the sustainable future of agriculture in the region
