Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the winter (rabi) seasons of 2002–03 and 2003–04 at the experimental field of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, to evaluate the profitability of nipping in Makhyatmubi pea (Pisum sativum sub sp. arvensis L.) cultivation. There were 8 treatments nipping at 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 days after sowing and a without nipping (control). Among different treatment combinations, nipping at 30 days after sowing (T4) produced significantly higher number of branches/plant, pods/plant, seed and stover yield than control. The highest net return (Rs 13, 799.5/ha) was obtained from the treatment T4 and followed by that at 35 days (T5) Rs 13,759.5/ha. While lowest net return of Rs 5254.9/ha was observed in the control.
