Abstract
T h e genus Psidium belonging to the family Myrtaceae, probably represents
a very ancient group of plants. Psidium guajava L., a native of
tropical America, js almost naturalized in many parts of India and is
chiefly cultivated for its fruits. In Assam, the leaves and barks of the
plant are employed, in dyeing and in Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, for
tanning. The wood of Psidium is close-grained and takes on a beautiful
polish.
