Abstract
The YAR is among the least-developed countries in the world with a per capita income in 1974 of about $120 per annum. This under-development has its roots in three major factors: (a) the country's long isolation from the rest of the world, which started to end with the revolution against the traditional Imams in 1962, but in fact was not fully overcome until the end of the subsequent civil war (1962-70), (b) the paucity of natural resources, and (c) the critical shortage of educational facilities and of modern technical and administrative skills...
