Abstract
The Government of Indonesia (GOI) has requested Bank assistance in financing the first phase of a National Food Crops Extension Project in the provinces of East, Central and West Java, Jogyakarta, North, West and South Sumatera, South Kalimantan and South Sulawesi. In these nine provinces, the project would provide for the establishment of an intensified and expanded food crops extension service at the provincial and district level. It would include hiring of additional extension staff, introduction of a sound extension methodology with an emphasis on regular farm visits and continuous training for extension workers, and construction of Rural Extension Centers (REC's), from which all extension services at the field level would emanate.
