Abstract

The book aims to identify and analyze the potentials and constraints poor women face in gaining access to financial services; to better understanding what is necessary if financial services are to become more accessible to them; to indicate certain needs forfutures research; and to facilitate improvements in policy and implementation. Programmes are required that meet the demands and needs of poor women, and do so in such a way that services are both financially sustainable and capable of contributing to women's economic and social empowerment
