Abstract

Artificial recharge trials were conducted to test the effectiveness of an excavated slot of coarse sand in increasing infiltration from a basin underlain at a shallow depth by a layer impedingvertical water flow. The trials also examined the development of a clogging layer over the bottom of the basin and the effect of unsaturated conditions below the recharge basin, which were expected to develop as a result of the clogging, on infiltration rates from the basin. The fate of rechargewater in the groundwater system was monitored
