Abstract

Of 28 F1 hybrids derived from eight cultivars, only five exhibited high heterosis over the better parent for yield per plant. Hybrids with high heterosis for yield had positive and significant values for heterosis and/or heterobeltiosis for pod number per plant and/or number of primary branches per plant. Most hybrids showing heterosis for yield and pod number per plant in the F1 exhibited high inbreeding depression for these characters in the F2.
