Abstract

Thirty genotypes of chickpea were evaluated to study the magnitude of genetic variability, heritability and genetic advancein yieldand yield contributing characters.Ahigh degree of significant variation was observed for all the characters studied except seeds per pod. The phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were found maximum for seed yield per plant followed by pods per plant and seeds per pod whereas minimum for days to maturity. High heritability estimates with high genetic advance as percent of mean were observed for secondary branches per plant, seed yield per plant, 100-seed weight, pods per plant and plant height that could be improved by simple selection.
