Abstract

In order to evaluate allelopathic properties different parts of Chenopodium album extractions on germination and seedling related traits of sorghum cultivars a factorial experiment was carried out in Mianeh Azad university at 2010 season. Treatments were arranged in three way factorial experiment based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications. Extract concentrations of 0%, 50% and 100% as control and three different parts of root, stem and leaf with five sorghum bicolor cultivars including Khaleseh, Galboos, Yengabad, Kimia and Spidfid allocated levels of A, B and C factor, respectively. Results of analysis of variance showed that leaf extraction reduced over 16% seed germination than root and stem extraction. Besides extract concentrations, root, stem and leaf parts of Chenopodium album decreased 17, 26 and 43% germination percentage of sorghum cultivars, respectively. Extract concentration had less effect on the germination rate of Kimia cultivar. Extract concentrations of root, stem and leaf decreased 67 and 50% radicle and plumule lengths of sorghum cultivars overall. With in cultivars Kimia was tolerant for allelopathic properties of Chenopodium album than others at early growth stage. Also Chenopodium album leaves had better allelopathic properties than roots and stems
