Abstract

Nuclear DNA content was estimated from seeds of 13 genotypes each of pigeonpea and pea using Fuelgen cytophotometry. Data were recorded for twenty-five 2C and 4C nuclei, in each genotype, and significant differences were found among genotypes from the same species. DNA density (DNA content/nuclear area) increased with increasing DNA content. The 4C nuclei exhibited higher density than 2C nuclei in each case. The 2C DNA values calculated from 4C nuclei were slightly lower than those estimated from 2C nuclei directly
