Abstract
Recent trends towards shrinking real research budgets for many national agricultural research systems (NARS) have stimulated several attempts to evaluate the economic benefits of aricultural reserch. Many of these quantitative economic evaluations have employed historical data to provide ex post assessments, and a few have used subjective judgments to project future research benefits.
