Abstract

The planet we share, the soils at our feet. Both are in danger. We look around the world and find ourselves needy, angry, starving. Thie dusts of Africa descend on us all. In the tropics, our good land is crowded, there isn't enough. We are leaving the riverbanks, comif.g down from the mountains, up from the coasts. We sew the dry edges of deserts with grain. We torch the stiff brush of savannas so cattle can graze. We slash at the jungle, raise a scant crop in its ash, and move on...
