Abstract

In the self-fertilized crops like barley, the choice of a few parents in either single or double crosses puts a limit to the variation that is released which is further reduced due to the unfavourable linkages between genes. Many researchers have suggested the use of recurrent selection procedures exploited advantageously in the cross-fertilized crops andlor synthesis of mass reservoirs (MILLER& RAWLINC;1~9.6 7; SUNESON1,9 69; EMPIG,1 970; REDDEK& JENSEN1, 974). These could supplement the conventional methods. However, these methods require several hundreds of hand emasculations and pollinations...
