Abstract
The data for the study were taken from trials of 17 varieties grown at four localities in 1971-1972 and at three localities in 1971-1973. Variety X year X locality interaction effects were significant for all five characters, namely pod yield, number of pods per plant, seed yield, shelling outturn and 100-seed weight. The variety X year interaction was significant only for 100-seed weight, and the variety X locality interaction was significant for seed yield and 100-seed weight. It is concluded that testing in several localities is more important than testing in several years. For the zone in which the trials were carried out, it is recommended that eight localities should be used for one or more years with four replicates
