Abstract

An experiment was conducted during 2 rainy (kharif) and 2 winter (rabi) seasons and 1 summer season (starting from rainy season 1989) to study the performance of 10 varieties of Spanish bunch groundnut (Arachis hypogaea subsp. fastigiata var. vulgaris) for pod and kernel yields, shelling percentage, sound mature kernel percentage and 100-kernel weight. The difference between the varieties was significant for shelling percentage, sound mature kernel percentage and 100-kernel weight. On the basis of 5 characters, varieties Kisan, Jawan, Girnar 1 and OG52-1 were superior to the others by 26%. In general, ICGS11 was stable for 4 characters (pod and kernel yields, 100-kernel weight and sound mature kernel percentage) and Kisan, Jawan and ICGS44 for 3 characters (pod and kernel yields and sound mature kernel percentage), whereas the remaining varieties were stable for 1 character each
