Abstract
Various types of chlorosis on groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) occur in Senegal. One that spreads over northern Senegal is described here, and identified as a nitrogen chlorosis due to a deficiency of nitrogen fixation resulting from poor nodulation. This chlorosis arises in acid soils, where there may be aluminium and manganese toxicity. No micronutrient deficiency has been found so far. Biotic factors, including the inadequacy of the Rhizobium population and the attacks of nematodes, may be responsible while the existing antagonism of actinomycetes towards Rhizobium would not interfere. Liming and, above all, organic matter application have proved to be means of control of the chlorosis.
