Abstract
Elinnesota is one of the leading states i n the production of barley. In 1985, Minnesota ranked third in the nation in barley production. Host of the barley in Minnesota is produced in Polk, Marshall, Uttson, Norman, Clay, Wilkln, Peanington, Mahnomen, Roseau and Red lake counties. Be acreage of barley planted, acreage harvested and the amount of barley produced in Minnesota during 1981 to 1985 is summarized i n Table 1. Bough the acreage planted and harvested changed very little during 1981 to 1985, the amount produced increased from 1,230 thousand metric tons in 1981 to 1,513 thousand metric tons in 1 985 (Anon. 1986 ) Such large quantities of harvested barley should be properly stored before it is sold or used without any losing quality. Table 2 shows the amount of barley stored on farms i n Minnesota a s of October 1 during 1982 t o 1985 (Anon. 1986). ….
