Abstract

With a view to study the extent of heterosis, nature end magnitude of genetic variance and combining ability of parents and crosses, a set of 60 hybrids derived through a line x tester mating between three male sterilelines and twenty diversed male parents were studied. The males consisted of ten early and ten midlate maturity genotypes. The material was evaluated along with parents in two rows plot accommodating 24 plants per entry in randomized block design replicated thrice during kharif 1985-86. The data were recorded on twelve characters. The heterosis expressed as percent of mid-parent, better-parent and stardad parent (BDN 2) was calculated for each character.
