Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2010 and 2011. The experiment was laid out in split-split plot design comprising 24 treatment combinations with two varieties (SSV 84 and SPSSV 6) as main plot factor, three seed rates (10, 15 and 20 kg/ha) as sub plot factor and four nitrogen levels (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg/ha) as sub-sub plot factor. Varieties did not significantly influence growth, yields, quality of juice. However, the varietal effect on brix per cent was significant with higher value under SSV 84. The values for growth parameters and yield of cane, sugar, juice and ethanol were significantly higher due to application of 180 kg N/ha but at par with 120 kg N/ha and seed rate of 20 kg seed/ha. The variety SPSSV6 proved marginally better than SSV 84.
