Abstract
After emasculation of A. diogoi, a profusely flowering and seed-producing, perennial diploid, crosses were made with A. glabrata, a rhizomatous perennial tetraploid which produces flowers abundantly but fails to set seed. The triploid hybrid had vigorous vegetative growth and tended to contain more calcium than either parent. The flower buds, however, did not grow out of the bracts and degenerated, leading to sterility. No differences in size or staining ability of the chromosomes in the PMCs compared with other synthetic triploids were apparent. Degeneration of these cells started during anaphase I. As A. diogoi produces triploids which flower normally when crossed with A. hypogaea, it seems that incompatibility exists between genomes of A. doigoi and A. glabrata [See PBA 43, 7184]
