Abstract
Na2SO4 induced regulation of some key morpho-physiological characteristics in Sorghum were examined to investigate the effect of Na2SO4 on germination and morphology of Sorghum that was conducted at Botany Department University of Gujrat. The variety used in this experiment was SSG-77. Plants were subjected for 30 days to sand culture that were salinized with four salt levels [T0 (control), T1 (50mM), T2 (100mM) and T3 (15 mM) Na2SO4]. The morpho-physiological parameters of Sorghum plants which were studied include dry shoot and root weights of 1st harvest and root length, shoot length, leaf area, root fresh weight, shoot fresh weight, photosynthetic rate (A), transpiration rate (E), substomatal CO2 concentration (Ci) and stomatal concentration (gs) of 2nd harvest. Salt stress significantly reduced the root length, shoot length, shoot and root fresh weights, photosynthetic rate (A) and transpiration rate (E). A slight reduction in both substomatmal CO2 concentration (Ci) and stomatal conductance (gs) was also observed under saline condition. It was concluded that Na2SO4 had diminution effects for all growth and physiological parameters of sorghum, all these attributes decreased with the increase in salinity levels
