Abstract

Nodulation was studied in 150 cultivars inoculated with strains of Rhizobium or uninoculated. Only 40% of uninoculated cultivars nodulated. All inoculated cultivars nodulated and cultivars such as NEC-K147 from Greece, with the ability to produce a large number of nodules and a large quantity of dried nodule tissue/plant, were identified. Results indicate that inoculation can increase yields and that it is possible to breed cultivars with increased yielding and nitrogen-fixing ability.
