Abstract

Our objective is to summarize work in pearl millet genomics as it relates to the mapping of disease resistance. Since 1990 there have been three major achievements: (i) construction of a genetic map for pearl millet, (ii) the mapping of downy mildew resistance genes, and (iii) the development of marker-assisted selection for breeding for resistance to Sclerospora graminicola, the causal agent of pearl millet downy mildew.
