Abstract

The N accumulation and root carbohydrate content of 4 groundnut cv. were studied. No major differences were found between cv. in the N content of the leaves, stems, husks or seeds. In locally selected cv. Valencia R2, Jacana and Egret the rate of N accumulation increased when seed growth commenced, but this did not occur in cv. Florunner (not adapted to local conditions). The rate of total N accumulation varied among the cv., as did the total accumulated. Root total non-structural carbohydrate content increased in all the cv. after reproductive growth commenced and later decreased, usually after stem growth had ceased. The rate of N accumulation was not well related to root carbohydrate content
