Abstract

Grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor(L.) Moench) is the fourth most important cereal crop grown for human consumption in the world, being surpassed only by rice, wheat and corn. In Africa and much of Asia, it is the principal source of energy for many millions of people and provides a major source of protein in the human diet. In U.S.A., it is used as a high energy source for livestock feed. Unlike rice, wheat and maize; sorghum can withstand better moisture stress conditions and hence predominantly grown in arid and semi-arid regions of the tropics....
