Abstract

The groundnut varieties Ganapuri (Valencia type) and GAUG1 and JL24 (Spanish bunch types) were evaluated for 11 yield-related traits in rainfed trials at Bhopal, India during 1988 and 1989. The crop was harvested at 5-day intervals from 105 days to 130 days after sowing. Yield was greatest in all varieties when harvested 120 days after sowing. GAUG1 and Gagapauri were the best performers with respective pod yields of 1480 and 1217 kg/ha, oil yields of 474 and 393 kg/ha and protein yields of 280 and 242 kg/ha. The oil quality (iodine and saponification) values of all varieties decreased with maturity of the crop. It is concluded that with average rainfall of 900-1000 mm during the monsoon season, groundnuts should be harvested when the optimum moisture content of the grain is 12-22% (about 117-125 days after sowing)
