Abstract
A disease of the fruit (pods) of the peanut, Arachis hypogea L., variously named black hull disease, black pod spot, blotchy hull, spotty shell, #potted hull or pod discoloration has been reported by a number of investigators (10,13,22,25,35,43) to be associated with infections of the smooth-headed lesion nematode. Pratylenchus brachyurus (Godfrey,1929). Both the nematode and the disease are widely distributed in the major peanut growing areas of Texas.
