Abstract
In 1965, world production of peanut (Arachis hypogaea, L.) fruits was 17 million tons. These seeds were harvested from 38 million acres for an average yield of 900 pounds per acre. Of 1.5 million acres of peanuts grown in the United States, 106 thousand acres are produced in Virginia. Farm value of peanuts produced in Virginia in 1965 was $34 million, ranking the crop second among the agronomic products of the Commonwealth.
