Abstract
The 1965 commercial production of the cultivated peanut, Arachis hypogaea L. in North Carolina was 422.4 million pounds of nuts valued at $51.1 million (U.S.D.A., 1965). This production was achieved on 176 thousand acres of the Coastal Plain region. Most of this acreage was planted to one variety, NC-2. This peanut variety is subject to parasitism by nematodes of the genera Meloidogyne Goeldi, 1887 (root-knot nematodes), Pratylenchus Filipjev, 1934 (lesion nematodes), and Belonolaimus Steiner, 1949 (sting nematodes), all of which occur in North Carolina (Anon., 1960).
