Abstract
In a plant breeding program it is essential to make an accurate selection of the superior genotypes from a population consisting of a mixture of genotypes. Many characteristics of economic importance, such as seed yield, plant height, maturity, and chemical composition, are quantitatively inherited. The procedure used by the breeder to isolate genotypes superior for quantitative characters depends in part upon the heritability of and the correlation between characters.
