Abstract
Field trials were conducted in the rabi [winter] season of 1988/89 in Parbhani, Maharashtra, India, to compare the effect on groundnuts cv. ICGS 11, ICGS 21, ICGS 44 and SB XI of packages of agronomic practices recommended by ICRISAT and the Department of Agriculture, Maharashtra. Differences included the use of phosphate and sulphate fertilizers, a lower sowing rate (100-105 compared with 125-130 kg seed/ha) and pre-emergence application of Stomp [pendimethalin] in the ICRISAT package, whilst the Ministry package included inoculation of seed with Rhizobium. Branching and dry pod yield were significantly higher under the ICRISAT package. The ICGS cultivars all outperformed SB XI, with the highest pod yield of 3.76 t/ha obtained with ICGS 44
